    Hillside services ltd
Dec 18th, 2007, 2:04pm   Just had a lovely letter from these people all hand written even had a stamp on the envelope! It was addressed to my hubby asking him to contact them and assuring him that they were not trying to sell him anything plus it was not a premium rate number but they had important news for him.

Do they think we are stupid? anyway after further investigation I have discovered that they are a tracing company, well they won't be tracing us   Their address made us laugh bailiff bridge brighouse

No doubt they have sent out hundreds of these just in time for xmas!!

    Reply #7 - Feb 26th, 2008, 9:33pm   Quote from charliegirl on Feb 26th, 2008, 8:47pm:
HI, I used to work for Hillside Services whilst at college, the owner is a Dave Williams who lives in a flash house not far from work. left cause could not bear to do the things you had to do to get a trace on a debtor. First few weeks you do the normal tracing, ringing people etc, sending yellow slips out - oh not forgetting you use an alias, so no one can trace back to them so Carly is really Clare, Natalie is really Natasha, James is really John etc. people work so hard in order to get a bonus but they have to lie and cheat, often ringing utility companies pretending to be the person they are looking for and saying they hvae not had a final bill which they asked for to be sent elsewhere and if they got someone timid on the phone they would really lace into them and would often result in the person giving them the address they sent new bill to !!!!!! - they are not bothered as this would then cost Welcome Finance, Brighthouse Banks, Building Societies who they work for about 40 quid for the trace and double that if they found out where the debtor worked. A trick here would be to ring job centre if they had your NI number which is often on some forms you have filled in, they would then pretend they had left a message for someone to ring them about a job next time they came to sign on, so if Job Centre person said they did not have a message for person and they had already been in - then a result - they would charge client for telling then debtor is unemployed. So much goes on at Hillside you would not believe!!!!!. They even ring Tax Office re tax codes pretending to be the debtor to get info. Also one of the guys was overheard ringing someone on their mobile saying mobile would be off for 20 mins for updates and as compensation they would send them a 10 voucher, then asked person to verify address to send it to and lo and behold another Trace!!!!!!!!!!!. They have also threatened people on the phone, especially Bright House customers (this is a furniture store where people who can't get credit go) and Welcome Finance saying they would report them to the police for having stolen good and especailly scaring woman with kids. - They are the lowest of the low and if all else fails, they have a couple of dudes in Scotland that can delve further into your affairs - amazing what you can do with a N I Number. Staff are constantly under pressure to make targets, make no wonder they employ people like us cause they know we won't stay long.

The only problem about what they do is proving it but believe me IF I COULD I WOULD. They put certain little markers on the forms they use so when manager looks at it, they can see what they have done eg:- ringing gas and electric someone may put 2 circles or 2 asteriks on form and this shows what they have done but to joe bloggs this would not mean anything so their you go.

One of the companies they do work for, mentioning no names, has its own parent company who do tracing but legally and above board and if they don't find someone it is sent to Hillside who well- find them - I wonder how they do that then!!!!. Do they really know what goes on but turn a blind eye!!!!

Could go on all night, so best advise is, if you get a yellow slip, tear it up !!!!!!

Yes - the address is correct it is an old mill building.

    Hope this helps

Well done to you  to have the courage to blow the whistle, charliegirl.

Rogue Traders on TV are very good about keeping whistelblowers ids totally secret then sending in reporters undercover.  Once they get their teeth into a rotten company they dont let go.

Reply #10 - Feb 26th, 2008, 10:06pm   All very well, Sue. Shame that Rogue Traders don't get their teeth into some DCAs or debt-tracers rather than some muppet who charges you for a bit of plumbing you don't need.

Reply #12 - Feb 27th, 2008, 8:55am   Surprising how easy it is to extract info from someone who's not "on the ball". I had my mobile company phone me the other day. Mumbai "Mary" (and yes they do now give themselves these names ) said,
"Before I can discuss your account, can you confirm your address and date of birth."

"Er, no". How do I know it's really my mobile company calling? It could be anyone who has my number. I wonder how many people just freely give the answers....

Reply #14 - Aug 9th, 2008, 8:54am   My partner received one of these letters from Hillside Messengers.  Called them and left her name and mobile on their voicemail.  As far as she can recall she has no outstanding debts or at least if she does they are from many years ago.  This was before reading all the messages on this and other forums.  Need we be concerned???
